School picture day is a special occasion that captures memories to cherish for years to come.
As a boutique school picture day photographer, I have learned many tricks over the years to ensure that the kid gives me a genuine smile that does not look forced.
I want to ensure that your kid has at least a little bit of fun during picture day and that my mission is complete when they return home and tell you about my chicken 🐓!
As a parent, you want your child to look their best and feel confident when posing for their school portrait.
With a little preparation and attention to detail, you can ensure that your child shines brightly on picture day.
In this blog post, we'll share eight tips on how to prep your kids for school picture day, ensuring they look and feel their best when the camera starts snapping.
1. Choose the Right Outfit:
Start by selecting an outfit that reflects your child's personality while adhering to the school's dress code. Avoid busy patterns or overly trendy clothing that may distract from your child's face. Opt for solid colors or subtle patterns that complement your child's complexion and style.
👉🏼 This does not apply when your child wears a school uniform.
2. Plan a Grooming Routine:
The day before picture day, plan a grooming routine to ensure your child looks polished and put together.
Schedule a haircut if needed and encourage your child to bathe or shower the night before.
Help them brush their teeth, comb their hair, and trim their nails for a neat and tidy appearance.
3. Practice Smiling:
Practice makes perfect, so spend some time practicing different smiles with your child before picture day.
Encourage them to smile naturally and confidently, showing off their teeth without forcing a grin. Remind them to relax their shoulders and maintain good posture while posing for the camera.
👉🏼 When my kids were younger and picture day was approaching in school we would play a little game the night before called "Laughing gas" where one kid goes around and tries to make all the others smile. Whoever cracks first is the new "Laughing gas".
4. Get Plenty of Rest:
A good night's sleep is essential for looking and feeling your best on picture day.
Ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night before by sticking to their regular bedtime routine. Limit screen time before bed and create a calm, relaxing environment to promote quality sleep.
5. Pack a Touch-Up Kit:
Prepare a small touch-up kit to keep in your child's backpack on picture day. Include essentials like tissues, a comb or brush, lip balm, and a small mirror for quick touch-ups between photos. This way, your child can freshen up their appearance and feel confident throughout the day.
👉🏼 When I am photographing your school in the Atlanta area you don't have to worry about that. In my bag, I always have a comb, a mirror, wet wipes, and a Lint roller!!!
6. Check for Stains and Wrinkles:
On the morning of picture day, carefully inspect your child's outfit for any stains, wrinkles, or imperfections.
Use a lint roller to remove lint and pet hair, and gently steam or iron out any wrinkles. Double-check their shoes and accessories to ensure everything is clean and presentable.
7. Pack a Healthy Snack:
Keep your child fueled and energized on picture day by packing a healthy snack and water bottle. Choose snacks that are easy to eat and won't leave crumbs or stains on their clothing.
Encourage your child to stay hydrated throughout the day to maintain their energy levels and focus.
8. Encourage Confidence and Positivity:
Above all, encourage your child to approach picture day with confidence and positivity.
Remind them that their school portrait is a special moment to capture their unique personality and smile.
Offer words of encouragement and praise throughout the day to boost their self-esteem and make them feel proud of themselves.
With these eight tips, you can help your kids feel confident and prepared for school picture day in Atlanta.
By choosing the right outfit, planning a grooming routine, practicing smiling, getting plenty of rest, packing a touch-up kit, checking for stains and wrinkles, packing a healthy snack, and encouraging confidence and positivity, you can ensure that your child's school portrait captures their natural beauty and personality.
So embrace the excitement of picture day and create lasting memories to treasure for years to come.
